Why I'm Not Happy With Ray Rice's NFL Ban and a Call for an #NFLBoycott

I am not happy with the ban of Ravens player Ray Rice for multiple reasons:

1. This should have happened back in July when Rice admitted to abusing his partner Janay Palmer.

Full stop. Ray Rice said he made a mistake and had learned from it, admitting to assaulting his fiance. For some reason though, the NFL Commission merely gave him a 2 game suspension and told him to get therapy. Only when the horrific video of him punching his partner came out did they take action.

Words are powerful.

Actions are more powerful.

Fish on Bikes is a blog about being an action-oriented feminist. Too often, I see powerful exposure of oppression, but without any action steps that individuals can take to work against them. Here, I aim to expose, educate, and offer specific actions that we can all do to create a more equal society.

I recognize that my experience as a white woman of class privilege limits my ability to write about the experience of people who are non-white, homosexual, transgender, etc. I do my best to work against a society that oppresses these folks as well, and when I mess up (and I will) please do me the kindness of respectfully educating me so I can do better.
